Ayeyarwady Delta is in southern Myanmar. Jerdon’s Babbler searched in the region. Sarus Crane Communication Conservation Area(CCA) is developing in it by Wildlife Conservation Society(WCS) Myanmar program.
Ayeyarwady Delta Ayeyarwady Delta is located in Ayeyarwady region. It is lied at the southern part of Myanmar. Ayeyarwady is the lowest expanse of land in Myanmar. Ayeyarwady delta is nearest to Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. There are land transport and water way to go to Ayeyarwady from Yangon. There is only one Domestic airport in Pathein ( Basein) where the Capital City of Ayeyarwady Region. As the dwelling people, Bamar, Karen and Rakhine people are staying in Ayeyarwady Delta Region. Bamar tribe is majority of the population. The majority of the people are Buddhism in Ayeyarwady Delta Region. Ayeyarwady Delta Region is heavily forested and mangrove forests. The major crop of Ayeyarwady Region is Rice. Ayeyarwady delta is the biggest pot of rice in Myanmar. Fishery is also important: Ayeyarwady Region produces fish, prawn, fish-paste, dry fish, dry prawn and fish sauce. The city of Pathein has numerous historic sights and temples. Outside Pathein are the beach resorts of Chaungtha Beach, Ngwe Saung Beach, Ngwe Taung Beach, Goyangyi Beach and Mawtin Point. Mawtin point is very famous place and panoramic Scenery view. Maw Tin Pagoda is very historical for Buddhism and popular place for pilgrimage. The pagoda is located at Mawtin Point. There are many Eco-tourism sites in Ayeyarwady Delta Region. One of Eco-tourism site is Meinmahlakyun Wildlife Sanctuary which is located in Bogale Township. Meinmahlakyun Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1986 , Area – 52.79 square miles. listed in ASEAN Heritage Park in 2013. Announced as RAMSAR site – in January 2017. Announced as the Fly Way Site Network in 2018. This wildlife Sanctuary is the best destination for Bird watching, Wild Crocodile watching, studying the Ecology system and Biodiversity, Nature and Wildlife Study Tour, Studying the Mangrove trees and its habitats. Some Highlight Species are Lesser Adjutant, Mangrove Pitta, Mangrove Whistler, Collared Kingfisher, White-winged Tern and others Nicobar Crab-eating Macaque(Macacafascicularis), Small Indian Civet(Viverriculaindica), Vulnerable species Fishing Cat (Prionailurusviverrinus), Leopard Cat(Prionailurusbengalensis).The purpose of the sanctuary is to conserve the mangrove tree species and the salt water Crocodile (Crocodilusporosus). Gayetgyi Island is comprised in RAMSAR Site area. It is the best place to see the shore birds including Migratory birds. We can see the Critical Endanger Specie Spoon-billed Sandpiper which is IUCN Red List. Sarus Crane Community Eco-tourism site is located in Wakema Township and Mau Bin Township in Ayeyarwady Delta Region. Sarus Crane Community meant that Sarus Cranes and its habitats are located at the land owned by Local Community. The local Community are taking care to Sarus Crane which is Threatened Specie in IUCN Red List. One of NGO which is Wildlife Conservation Society ( WCS ) gave the Education Program, Awareness Raising program to local Community concerned with conservation of Sarus Crane. And then carried out the Eco-tourism site in Wakema Township. It is one of Tourist Destination. Another High Light to see in this destination are Jerdon’s Babbler ( Critically Endanger Specie), Yellow-breasted Bunting. The Distance from Yangon to Wakema is about 4 hours drive by Car.
Thameehla Kyun Wildlife Sanctuary is located at Andaman Sea in Ngaputaw Township of Ayeyarwady Region. It is south-wet of Myanmar. The ecosystem is rich with mangrove forests, different types of birds (water birds, inland birds and migratory birds), reptiles and mammals. You can also learn more about turtles in this place including their eggs and natural habitat. Thameehla Kyun is special place for Sea Turtle Conservation area. The Total areas of Island 88ha(0.9Kilometer squares). As the Acessibility, can go by car from Yangon to Pathein (120 miles by car), from Pathein to Ngaputaw (21 miles by car), from Ngaputaw to Haigyiikyun (40 miles by waterway), from Haigyiikyun to Thameehla Kyun (7 miles by waterway). The best time for visiting to Thameehla Kyun is from December to April yearly. Thameehla Kyun is the best place for research on Sea Turtles.
Jerdon’s Babbler ( Chrysomma altirostre ) is really rare and Vulnerable specie according to IUCN Red List. Jerdon’s Babbler which previously thought to be extinct and resurfaced in March 2015 rediscovered by the team from Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Myanmar.
