Hlawgar Bird Watching

Hlawga Park is the best birding spot 35 km north of Yangon, located in Mingalardon Township, Yangon, and includes Wildlife, Mini-Zoo and Buffer Zone. There are 185 bird species inhabited in wintering. The Mini-Zoo has small mammals, tigers, bears and estuarine crocodile in large spacious cages, aviaries and moated enclosures.

Birding Activity June 2019: We did our birding activity on Saturday, 29. June. 2019 collaborated by SST Tourism Co., Ltd and Myanmar Bird and Nature Society (MBNS), led by Ko Ye` (Birder) and Mai Mingalar Lay (S.S.T Bird Guide) consist of ten participants.

Hlawgar Bird Watching: Our meeting point, in birding activity, is Hlawga entrance and we started our birding at 7:00 am. Firstly, we went to the 144, where in our key species Racket-tailed Treepie Crypsirina temia and Pale-eyed Bulbul Pycnonotus davisoni inhabited, and started to looking for the two rare birds. After looking for in a while, fortunately, a pair of Racket-tailed Treepies is coming in our welcome site in a seconds. Then I tried to get pictures but failed. Then we keep on looking for Pale-eyed Bulbul, which split from Stripe-throated Bulbul. Unluckily, we found not.

After we had done birding in two hours, we recorded species such as Red-vented, Red-whiskered , Ayeyawady and Black-crested Bulbuls, four Little Cormorants, Purple Heron, Asian Koel (female), Common and Dark-necked Tailorbirds, Pin-striped Tit and Chestnut-capped and Puff-throated Babblers, Common Iora, three Greater Coucals, White-throated Kingfisher, Rufescent and a pair of Grey-breasted Prinias, Rose-ringed Parakeet,six Olive-backed and a pair of Ruby-cheeked Sunbirds and Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker. After did birding two hours, we bought tickets and went into the park for birding around the Mini-Zoo. After watching over one hours in the park, we was listed species: Oriental Magpie Robin, a pair of Van Hasselt’s Sunbirds, Abbott’s Babbler, three Jungle Mynas, Green Bee-eater, Eurasian Tree and House Sparrows, Common Myna, White-rumped Shama, Black-crested Bulbul, two Black Drongos and Hooded Pitta.

When bird watching time set, approximately, four hours , we relaxed and did the birds list sipping at the coffee shop, and showing off the pictures to the others, which was recorded in the birding spot. In our birding activity, 36 species was listed. Then we said “good bye” to all and left for home by own plan.
